It started with a promise.

How a holiday in Jamaica became a compassion mission on the streets of Ocho Rios.

Mission & Vision

No one should be forgotten.
No animal should be invisible.

A grassroots outreach project in Ocho Rios, Jamaica — freshly prepared meals, safe drinking water and a moment of human connection for people living on the streets, food bags for families struggling at home, and food for the stray dogs nobody else feeds.

But the meal is only part of what we are trying to provide.

A freshly prepared meal

For someone who may not have eaten for several days, or someone who is simply hungry, a hot meal makes an immediate and meaningful difference.

Safe drinking water

In certain areas of Jamaica, drinking water is not always safe. Even a simple bottle of safe water can matter enormously — including to people who have just left hospital with nothing.

A moment of human connection

If someone wants to talk, we take the time to listen. Sometimes a small conversation can matter almost as much as the meal itself.

Our Mission

It is important to understand that life is not cheap in Jamaica. The cost of
food, water and other basic necessities can place a significant burden on
people who are already struggling. Something as simple as bottled water,
which many people may take for granted, can be essential to someone who
cannot safely access drinking water or afford to buy it. So when we are able to be there, we try to provide more than food. We provide a freshly prepared
meal, safe drinking water, a drink, a moment of human connection — and,
above all, the message:

“Angels on the Ground is a grassroots project born from a simple belief: No one should be forgotten, and no animal should be invisible.”

I have been personally funding the project, together with a small local team whose commitment comes from compassion rather than financial reward. We do not have large organisations behind us. What we do have is determination, respect for one another, and a genuine desire to help people and animals who are struggling.

And the animals

When I saw vulnerable people struggling and stray dogs surviving on the streets, my heart would not allow me to choose between them. I could not feed a hungry person and walk past a starving animal. So throughout my time in Jamaica, I also made sure that stray dogs were fed. My hope is that, as Angels on the Ground grows, this can increasingly become something that local people feel able and empowered to continue themselves — caring for the vulnerable animals within their own communities.

Food bags families can cook

Our vision also includes developing a food-bank-style service for vulnerable families who are struggling to put food on the table. Many families are finding it increasingly difficult to feed everyone in their household. Where families have cooking facilities at home, we would like to provide bags filled with basic, essential food items that they can use to prepare meals for themselves. These food bags could include everyday ingredients and basic necessities, helping families create several meals at home and stretch their resources further. This would not only provide food, but also relieve some of the pressure and worry faced by families who are finding it hard to make ends meet.

“We treat everyone with the same dignity and respect. There is no judgement and no distinction between people.”

Many ways to help

There are many ways to support Angels on the Ground, and financial donations are only one of them.

Gift of Hope

Donate essential items, boxes or kits through our Gift of Hope section. When you choose one of these options, the person receiving it will receive exactly what you have donated.

Your Gift Makes a Difference

Your support helps provide fresh meals, safe drinking water and essential food supplies to people and families who need them most.

Donate

Donations help us purchase ingredients, prepare freshly made meals, provide safe drinking water and drinks, create food bags for families in need, and carry out our outreach in the community.

Every donation counts, whether it is small or large. Each one makes
a difference, and I will make sure that the money goes directly into
the community where it is needed most.

Our ambition is undoubtedly bigger than our current resources. But we refuse to allow the size of our funds to determine the size of our compassion.
One person can start something. A community can make it grow.

Our Vision

Our vision is to make this work more regular, sustainable, and community-led. We want basic necessities to feel like what they are:

basics — not luxuries.

One of our long-term hopes is to create opportunities for vulnerable people to participate in acts of kindness themselves — for example, helping to feed a stray animal.
For someone who has spent a long time feeling forgotten, being trusted with a small responsibility and given the opportunity to care for another living being could help them feel accepted, useful and connected again.
Because sometimes compassion is not only something we receive. It is also something we give.
Sometimes it begins with simply being given a chance.
Sometimes reintegration does not begin with something enormous.

Regular outreach

A reliable programme providing freshly prepared meals, safe drinking water and drinks for people who are homeless or living on the streets.

A community food bank

Food bags for families who have cooking facilities and need support with basic ingredients — so they can prepare food in their own homes, with dignity and independence.

A way back to belonging

Where appropriate, and when people are willing, helping vulnerable individuals take small steps towards feeling connected and valued within their communities again.

Compassion has no category. Hope has no address.
